Company History Company History We, Onkyo Corporation, will celebrate the 80th anniversary of the founding of our predecessor company on September 16, 2026. We were founded in 1946 by Mr. Takeshi Godai, who had served as the General Manager of the Speaker Business Division at Panasonic Corporation. There was also a historical connection in that the Godai Bicycle Shop –where Mr. Konosuke Matsushita, founder of Panasonic Corporation, once worked as an apprentice- was the birthplace of Mr. Takeshi Godai. Upon becoming independent from Panasonic after World War II, he established us with speakers as its original business. In 1957, the 11th year since our founding, we came under the umbrella of Toshiba Corporation, with which we had collaborated in the television business.
